Not far from Rangiroa in the Tuamotu Islands, Tikehau, when seen from the air, is a crown of white and pink sand around a lagoon of such a bright blue that it’s almost unreal. A dreamlike atoll, straight out of a picture postacard, with a lagoon teeming with more fish than any other island in the archipelago. There is a hotel and several Tahitian Guesthouses, where you’ll be sure of the warmest of welcomes. Perhaps more than anywhere else in French Polynesia, Tikehau is the epitome of an island paradise. You’re sure to have a vacation that you will never forget.

Pink sand beaches

Imagine basking on the sun on a beach where the sand is bright pink! Created by the presence of a microscopic organism called a foraminifera, the pink sand is breathtakingly beautiful next to the bright blue of the lagoon.

Stroll along the beach, stopping for a rest in the shade of the coconut trees and a swim in the clear warm waters. Enjoy being in paradise… and don’t forget your camera!

Craftwork and friendly people

Discover the local craftwork of Tikehau. The inhabitants of the island are proud of their ancestral arts, and produce beautiful seashell necklaces, baskets woven from palm leaves and wooden sculptures.

The Paumotu (inhabitants of Tuamotu in the local language) are warm, friendly people, as you’ll find out when you visit the main village of Tuherahera. You’ll learn about their unique way of life and you’ll enjoy a taste of traditional Tahitian hospitality.

Tikehau is perfect for divers of all levels – there are plenty of fish in the sea!

There are a lot of activities for you to do in Tikehau, Unsurprisingly, most of them are nautical activities. The most popular is scuba diving to observe the impressive diversity of marine life. Angling is also extremely popular and, as Tikehau has the most fish of any of the lagoons in the Tuamotu Islands, you’re unlikely to come back empty-handed from your trip.

The clear water of the lagoon is also perfect for snorkeling. Afterwards, you can spread your towel on a choice of beaches straight out of a picture postcard and observe the island’s birdlife. Tikehau is home to several species of exotic birds, such as the blue noddy, brown noddy, red-footed booby and the lesser frigatebird.
