Update on Covid-19 tests for French Polynesia, flights from August 9th

August 5, 2020 in Experience

Kindly note this important update regarding the Covid-19 test for all flights from Sunday, August 9th.

Acceptable tests

The Tahitian Health department will issue a list of RT-PCR tests which will be acceptable for the test to be done 3 days before the day of departure. This list is not limitative, but provided as a help to the control for the airlines. The list will be available soon.

RT-PCR COVID-19 test is required and the only one accepted, and this must be clearly mentioned on the test result or on a document from the laboratory certifying that the given test is a RT-PCR Covid-19 test. So it is important to communicate with customers and explain that the “RT-PCR Covid-19” should be mentioned on the test result or on a document certified by the laboratory.

All other tests are not acceptable: in particular Home Collection tests, Rapid Tests, Antigen and Antibody tests. The ID NOW Abbott test will not be acceptable.

However, the new test rules will only apply for flights after Saturday August 8. ID NOW Abbott test is acceptable until Saturday (Saturday included). Should you have any client with an Abbott Rapid test for TN111/07 August, please alert our Call Center.

Age for mandatory test: Children under 6 years old
In the new rules, the test before flight will be mandatory for all passengers of 6 years old or more (previously all passengers), the same rule applies for the self-test to be done 4 days after arrival. This is applicable immediately.

Control of test result at arrival
Random controls will be made by Health Department staff at the arrival in Tahiti, the purpose of this control is to check that the tests made are acceptable and to progressively correct the information given to the airlines. In case of non-acceptable test, the customer will have to be tested and confined until the result of the new test (generally 24 hours after the test, the test will not be made at the airport).

In closing, we apologize for any confusion around the RT-PCR test. Air Tahiti Nui is strictly following and communicating the information provided to us by the Ministry of Health. The objective of these policies and procedures is to keep everyone safe and enjoying The Islands of Tahiti in a stress-free and relaxing manner– clients – crew – Tahitians – and Covid-19 free.

Thank you for your understanding.

Very sincerely,
Air Tahiti Nui
