Refuge of souls
It's original name was, Pa'ihia, meaning "that which was struck". Now called Mount Pahia, in the municipality of Nunue, is the second highest peak in Bora Bora after its big brother, Mount Otemanu. A hiking trail of 7 km will take you up the 661 meters to the top, from where you have a truly breathtaking view of the most beautiful lagoon in the world. Be careful, some of the slopes are slippery and can make the trail quite difficult, although there are rope railings to help you climb. There is a cave high up on the side of the mountain, known as the bird cave, where parakeets nest. Legend has it that this is the resting place for the souls of the departed. It is best to use the services of a guide for this trail.
